Northwest Missouri State earned at least a share of its eighth straight MIAA regular season title Thursday evening with a 69-62 win over Emporia State.

The Bearcats (18-1) have won 13 games in a row, and extended its own record-setting conference title streak in the process.

Northwest jumped out to a 32-21 lead in the first half, but Emporia State battled back to trail by just two heading to halftime.

The Hornets battled the entire game, trailing by just one point with 2:46 remaining, but the Bearcats wouldn't give the lead away.

Northwest outscored Emporia 9-3 the rest of the way to hang on for the win.

The Bearcats put an individual over the 30-point mark for the third consecutive game as Ryan Hawkins led all scorers with 34. He shot 14-22 from the field and 4-7 from three-point range. He also snared 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.

Luke Waters put up 15 points in the win. Waters has now hit seven of 11 three-point attempts in his last two games.

Trevor Hudgins finished with 11 points and four assists for the 'Cats.

Coupled with the Northwest win, Missouri Western knocked off Washburn Thursday evening opening the door for the Bearcats to win a piece of the MIAA title. One more win or Ichabod loss will give the outright title to Northwest.

The Bearcats will be in Topeka, KS Saturday afternoon to face the Ichabods. Pregame begins at 2:30pm followed by the opening tip at 3pm on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9.
